I fell in love with this tree in the Tuolumne Meadows of Yosemite. Around this area I found a bunch of paired trees, one dead – burnt by forest fire some time ago, but another living, now the same size as the dead one, grown from the base of the dead tree. They make a great life and death combo-pack.

It turned out that the “dead” tree was far from it. The day I was there was “Send Off All The New Queens” day for a large ant colony that inhabits portions of the “dead” tree.
