Winter Pond with Sumi-e

When did I make this piece?

I mixed it today, February 4, 2010. I shot the photo a couple weeks before that. I made the sumi-e painting in the late 1980s or early 90s. This piece has, as of this writing, never been printed. It may be printed weeks or months from now, or potentially never printed.

I really enjoy becoming (as Kurt Vonnegut termed it) unstuck in time.

  1. I may be having troubling deciphering…. It looks like a metallic 3-dimensional object on top of a photograph of snow and sticks and shadows on a road. Which part of the image is the sumi-e painting? Or is it not literally a painting, but actually a sumi-e made from twisted metal that looks like brush strokes?

  2. Ahhhh, deciphering. All of the blackest is the sumi.
